What Is Insomnia?

What is insomnia?

Insomnia is a serious sleep disorder and usually occurs when someone stays up all night and doesn’t get enough sleep. Insomnia can cause headaches, feelings of irritability, daytime sleepiness and long-term depression.

What are the causes of insomnia?

The causes of insomnia could be many factors such as stress, anxiety, depression or other sleep disorders. With insomnia there are plenty of sleep aids that can help the person with this problem to go to sleep without difficulty. The medication will help them stay asleep for longer periods of time.

How to treat insomnia?

Situational or episodic insomnia—from jet lag, for example—normally does not require treatment as episodes last only a few days or weeks. In these instances, the individual’s sleep cycle usually returns to normal without treatment.

In other cases of episodic insomnia, daytime sleepiness and impaired performance can be remedied with short-acting sleeping pills.
